Motion

For my first photo assignment, I chose the category motion. I started with taking photos of moving cars in downtown Ann Arbor at night. I started off on the top of a parking structure, but found that the railing got in the way. I moved down to the sidewalk, and tried to pan with cars so they were in focus while the background wasn't. Unfortunately, that wasn't very successful and I only got two decent panning photos. Also, after my photos were uploaded, I realized my ISO was set too high, so my photos turned out grainy. However, this probably couldn't be avoided because my photos were taken at night.

Later on, I took photos of my brother playing his ukulele and his violin. This went pretty well, except my brother moved his body along with his hands and made most of my pictures too blurry. I also took pictures of my fan moving, which I thought turned out really well. I really liked how the light on the fan became the automatic focal point of the photo.

For my best photo, I picked a photo of an intersection where a car is passing to get through the intersection as the
light turns yellow. I really like the darker background with the bright lights and the blur of the car's headlights.

Technical Details:
ISO 800
f-stop of 8
1 second shutter speed

  1. I really like these photos. They are a great example of motion. Most of the photos are grainy like you said and a few look like they are a little bright. I would try a tripod to make it a little more steady so you could get the motion of the cars a little better. I really like the higher up pictures looking down. They have lines, color and a little bit of framing in them. It gives a really cool perspective. Overall you did a very good job but work on the iso a little bit.

  2. I really liked how you took pictures of the cars in Ann Arbor at night, it popped out the colors of the cars and made the motion more noticable

  3. I really like the photo you took. The neon colors really catch your attention. I also like how how the lights reflect off the street!

  4. Hey, great job on this assignment, I love the contrast of colors against the dark background. I think a tripod would've steadied the foreground a bit for cleaner lines, but overall a great job.
